Boston — Rajon Rondo, the former point guard for the Celtics, was taken into custody in Indiana over the weekend on several offenses, including marijuana and gun possession.

After being pulled over in Jackson County, Indiana, on Sunday afternoon, Rondo—who spent nine of his sixteen NBA seasons playing in Boston—was taken into custody.

On Interstate 65, Rondo was stopped for a traffic infraction, according to Indiana State Police. According to reports, the trooper smelled marijuana coming from his car.

The car contained a gun, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia, according to the police. Due to a protection order against him, Rondo is not permitted to possess a firearm.

The 37-year-old is being charged with misdemeanors in all cases.

Rondo was assigned to the Jackson County Prison. He paid the bond and was let go. The two-time NBA champion has run afoul of the law on multiple occasions. In 2022, for example, a Louisville woman requested an emergency protection order against Rondo, claiming he had threatened to kill her.

A year later, after Rondo completed counseling, a mental health assessment, and an anger management class, that order was revoked.

The same women requested an emergency protection order against Rondo once more in March of last year, but an agreement was reached after five months.

Rondo’s child, who was in the car with him when he was arrested, was given to a family member.

A date for Rondo’s anticipated appearance in Jackson County Superior Court has not yet been determined.

In 2008, Rondo contributed to the Celtics’ NBA championship, and in 2020, while playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, he took home another ring. Rondo played for the Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings, Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans, Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers, and Cleveland Cavaliers in addition to Boston, where he was a four-time All-Star. His final NBA season was 2021–2022, when he was a player for Cleveland.
